1. National Business Capital
A balance-sheet lender for $250K-plus deals, and the better choice for large or layered financing.
- Best for
- Established companies with $600K+ revenue needing $250K to $15M
- Amounts
- Up to $15M "direct from our balance sheet"
- Speed
- Up to $250K in a few hours; $1M–$15M in 3 to 7 business days
- Reviews
- Trustpilot 4.9 (2,773), BBB A+ accredited since 2012
National Business Capital started out as a small-business loan marketplace. Today it presents itself mainly as a direct lender of private credit: its partner page says it can "fund in-house, up to $15M direct from our balance sheet," and positions deals from $250K to $15M. It still arranges offers from other lenders too ("Get offers from National Business Capital and our lender network"). Borrowers get dedicated business advisors, and its FAQ says it uses soft credit pulls for approvals.
Its menu includes term loans, lines of credit, revenue-based cash flow financing, equipment financing, and subordinated debt, which it describes as "growth capital behind senior debt." Trade-press deal tables show 2026 fundings as lender from $0.2M to $15M. If you already have a bank loan and need more capital layered behind it, or you need several million dollars from a single decision-maker, National Business Capital is the better choice. We do not lend, and we do not offer subordinated or bridge capital.
It also has the bigger public record: 4.9 on Trustpilot from 2,773 reviews, with 98% five-star, and BBB A+ accreditation since 2012 with one complaint closed in the last three years. The few negative reviews describe a pre-approval followed by a denial (September 2026), a bridge loan whose promised SBA take-out did not happen (December 2025), and unwanted calls after information was passed on (2022 and 2024). Its privacy policy says it does not sell your personal information to outside parties without consent, but "outside parties" excludes "investors and other parties who assist us in the funding."

Bay Street Lending is a broker founded by an investment banker and a partner who has spent his career in commercial finance. You apply once (a soft credit pull, about two minutes), and one named advisor works your file from start to finish. We compare 100+ funding partners, send your file only to the ones that fit it, and never sell your information to other lenders.
Every option comes back priced side by side: total cost, payment and term, in writing, before you sign, with no obligation to accept. Working capital runs $25K to $2.5M (500+ FICO, 6+ months, $25K+ a month in deposits) and can fund in as little as 6 hours. We also arrange SBA 7(a) and 504 loans ($50K to $5M, typically 60 to 90 days), equipment financing, lines of credit, invoice factoring up to $10M, and purchase order financing from $25K.
Where we fall short against National Business Capital: we cannot fund from our own balance sheet, our working-capital ceiling is $2.5M against their $15M, we do not offer junior capital behind a senior loan, and our 45 Google reviews are no match for their 2,773 on Trustpilot and a BBB record going back to 2012. Our team has arranged $250M+.

- Who decides
- National: itself on direct deals, or a network lender. Us: the funders that fit your file.
- Entry bar
- National: 1 year, $600K+ revenue. Us: 6+ months, $25K+/month deposits.
- Products only one offers
- National: subordinated and bridge capital. Us: invoice factoring, PO financing.
Lender versus broker. When National Business Capital funds a deal itself, you are dealing with the lender that sets the terms. That can be simpler on a large deal. Its site does not say how it decides between its own product and a network lender's offer. We never lend, so our job is only to put the best-fitting outside options in front of you and show them side by side.
Size of business. National's FAQ asks for at least $600,000 in annual revenue and one year in business, and its stated focus starts at $250K. A company doing $300K to $600K a year, or one needing $25K to $250K, is usually a better fit with us.
Cost transparency. National does not publish a fee schedule; its FAQ guides unsecured rates at "around 1% per month" and says it will explain all costs during the process. We put total cost, payment and term for every option in writing before you sign. Whichever you choose, ask for the total payback and every fee in writing before you accept.
How to choose between a lender and a broker →Our pick
Choose National Business Capital if you need $1M or more, want a lender that can fund from its own balance sheet, need subordinated or bridge capital behind a bank loan, or weigh a long public review record heavily.
Choose Bay Street Lending if your business is established but below National's $600K revenue bar, you need $25K to $2.5M in working capital or invoice factoring and purchase order financing, and you want one advisor to put several priced options side by side.
What we'd do today
- Write down the amount, what it is for, and whether a bank already holds a lien on your assets; that decides whether junior capital is even an option.
- Check your last 12 months of revenue against National's $600K minimum and our $25K-a-month deposit floor.
- Pull 3 to 6 months of business bank statements; both firms start there.
- Ask each firm who will see your file and whether the offer comes from its own balance sheet or a partner.
- Compare offers on total payback, payment and term, in writing, before you sign.
Questions
Is National Business Capital a lender or a broker?
Both. Its site describes it as a direct lender that can fund up to $15M from its own balance sheet, and it also offers deals from its lender network. Older third-party reviews describe it as a marketplace with 75+ lending partners.
Is Bay Street Lending a lender?
No. Bay Street Lending is a broker. The funder that approves your file pays us; you do not pay us a fee, and you are under no obligation to accept an offer.
What are National Business Capital's requirements?
Its FAQ asks for one year in business (except equipment financing) and at least $600,000 in annual revenue. It does not publish a minimum credit score.
Which is better for a $5M or larger deal?
National Business Capital, in most cases. It funds up to $15M directly and offers subordinated debt behind a senior lender. Our working capital tops out at $2.5M; only invoice factoring reaches $10M.
Will applying hurt my credit?
National Business Capital says it uses soft credit pulls for approvals and that most lenders it works with do too. Bay Street Lending starts with a soft pull. A funder may run a hard pull before closing.
