Why owners look for Fundera alternatives
Sourced reasons, not guesses.
- Who runs it
- Fundera, Inc., a NerdWallet subsidiary, dba NerdWallet Small Business
- Data sharing
- Consent covers NerdWallet and its partners, who may share it back
- Published minimums
- None on its own site
Fundera was founded in New York in 2013 and bought by NerdWallet in 2020. Today fundera.com redirects to a NerdWallet-branded application, and NerdWallet's own business-loan pages send applicants there. Fundera says it does not make credit decisions or fund loans; it matches your application to lender products and assigns a Funding Advisor. You pay nothing; the lender pays Fundera once you are funded.
The most common reason to look elsewhere is what happens to your information. The application consent lets Fundera share your details with partners, including NerdWallet and its partners, who "may further share my information back." It also authorizes autodialed and prerecorded calls and texts from Fundera and its partners, even to a number on a Do-Not-Call list; the consent says this is not a condition of using the service. Recent one- and two-star Trustpilot reviews describe constant calls from third-party lenders after applying, and Finder lists "can lead to excessive solicitation" as a con.
Other reasons reviewers give: high-cost offers presented in ways they found confusing (one 2026 review cites a rate near 60% on a line of credit), heavy document requests, and the lack of published minimums, rates or a lender list on Fundera's own site. You also create an account to apply.
1. Lendio
The biggest marketplace, and better than Fundera for the smallest requests.
- Best for
- Startups and requests from $1,000
- Reviews
- Trustpilot 4.5 (21,906), BBB A+
- Track record
- $17B+ and 520,000+ loans claimed
Lendio is the closest like-for-like swap: an online marketplace with a funding expert, startup loans up to $150K, business credit cards and lines of credit from $1,000. Its review base is the largest in this list.
The trade-off is similar to Fundera's. Lendio's privacy policy lets it share your file with "lenders, business financing providers, banks, and brokers," who may keep it even if you never take an offer, and it publishes no cap on how many see it.
Bay Street Lending vs Lendio →2. LendingTree
A household-name lead marketplace for owners who want to compare offers themselves.
- Best for
- Young businesses and owners who want to shop online
- Minimums
- None at platform level, per Merchant Maverick
- Reviews
- Trustpilot 4.5 (17,377, all products), BBB A+
LendingTree's terms call it "a marketing lead generator" paid by the lenders it matches you with. Third-party reviewers say the business form matches you with up to five lenders, and a concierge team adds recommendations; LendingTree says that team connected 5,000+ businesses with $300M+ in loans in 2025.
Merchant Maverick reports no platform minimum for time in business, credit or revenue, which makes LendingTree a better fit than Fundera for very young businesses. Its privacy policy allows disclosure to "lenders and other third parties in our network," and reviewers cite persistent calls, so expect contact from several parties.
LendingTree business loans ↗3. Clarify Capital
A broker with an advisor for established businesses, from $5,000.
- Best for
- 6+ months in business, $10K+/month revenue
- Amounts
- $5K to $5M; home-equity line to $750K
- Reviews
- Trustpilot 4.9 (873)
Clarify Capital works with a network of 75+ lenders through a dedicated loan advisor. It quotes with a soft inquiry and says a hard pull happens only if you accept an offer. It charges no up-front fees and is paid by its lending partners.
It is a better Fundera alternative than we are for a business doing $10K to $25K a month or needing under $25,000. Its privacy policy says it does not transfer your personal information to outside parties "unless we provide users with advance notice."
Bay Street Lending vs Clarify Capital →4. National Business Capital
A balance-sheet lender for larger, more complex deals.
- Best for
- $250K to $15M, including junior capital behind a bank loan
- Minimums
- 1 year and $600K+ annual revenue
- Reviews
- Trustpilot 4.9 (2,773), BBB A+ since 2012
National Business Capital says it can fund up to $15M directly from its own balance sheet and still offers deals from a lender network. It offers term loans, lines of credit, equipment financing and subordinated debt, and says up to $250K can fund within a few hours.
If your business is past Fundera's $1,000,000+ slider and needs several million dollars, or capital layered behind an existing bank loan, it is the better choice in this list. It is not built for small requests or businesses under $600K in revenue.
Bay Street Lending vs National Business Capital →5. Bay Street Lending
This is us. A broker for established businesses that want their file kept close.
- Best for
- 6+ months, $25K+/month deposits, $25K to $10M
- Cost to you
- No fee from us; the funder pays us if you fund
- Reviews
- 5.0 on Google from 45 reviews
Bay Street Lending is a broker founded by an investment banker and a partner who has spent his career in commercial finance. One application (a soft credit pull, about two minutes), one named advisor, and 100+ funding partners, but your file goes only to the funders that fit it. We never sell your information to other lenders, and every option comes back priced side by side (total cost, payment, term) in writing before you sign.
We arrange working capital ($25K to $2.5M, funding in as little as 6 hours), SBA 7(a) and 504 loans, equipment financing, lines of credit, invoice factoring up to $10M and purchase order financing. Our team has arranged $250M+. We do not serve startups, requests under $25,000, consumer loans or credit cards, so Fundera, Lendio or LendingTree are better for those. We have 45 Google reviews, rated 5.0.
Start an application →6. Your own bank, an SBA preferred lender, or a CDFI
Not a marketplace at all, and often the cheapest money.
- Best for
- Strong credit, 2+ years in business, time to wait
- Speed
- Usually weeks to months
- Who sees your file
- Only the lender you apply to
If your bank already knows your business, ask it first. An SBA preferred lender can approve SBA loans in-house, and a community development financial institution (CDFI) focuses on owners that mainstream lenders often pass over. For an owner who qualifies and can wait, any of these is better than a marketplace or a broker: pricing is usually lower and your file goes to one lender.
The cost is time and paperwork: tax returns, financial statements and often collateral. If you need money within days, or your bank has said no, a broker or marketplace is the faster path.
How SBA loans work →Our pick
Stay with Fundera if you want startup loans, business credit cards or personal loans and like having credit-score access in the same NerdWallet account. Choose Lendio or LendingTree for the smallest and youngest businesses, Clarify Capital if you deposit $10K to $25K a month, and National Business Capital for $1M-plus or junior capital.
Choose Bay Street Lending if you are established, need $25,000 or more, and want one advisor to bring you a short list of priced options without your file traveling further than it needs to. If you have strong credit and time, start with your own bank.
What we'd do today
- Write down the amount, what it is for, and how fast you truly need it; speed is what pushes owners toward costlier products.
- Check your average monthly deposits and time in business against the minimums above to cut the list to two or three options.
- Before you apply anywhere, read the consent text and ask exactly who will see your file and whether they may call you.
- Ask your own bank first if you have 2+ years and strong credit.
- Compare offers on total payback, payment and term, in writing, before you sign.
